Eteri Lamoris Wows Opera Lovers in «I Puritani»
BY BOB ANTHONY
A star shone brightly at the Kennedy Center last night in the person of Eteri Lamoris who sang the role of Elvira in ”1 Puritani”. Hers was a magnificent performance with a strong vocal line and the wonderful embellishments as demanded by Bellini. And her acting was totally moving from spritely bride to depressed madwoman. Stephanie Novacek as the Queen also proved the cast was tops for the females with her totally physical and vocal assuredness in her role. The male singers all showed some weaknesses and the orchestra seemed sluggish and often late in moving into the arias leaving the males most often in tableaux positions. The costumes by Katia Duflot were heavenly and the hair and makeup by Elsen Associates were award winners. Do catch this opera for performances with Ms. Lamoris and Ms. Novacek. They do some of the finest work of the opera season.
